Art and Medicine: The Study of Bodies in Motion

Is art and science truly incompatible? “Performing Medicine” is a new series of performances, workshops, and lectures run by British theatre director, Suzy Willson. The series of performances questions the compatibility of the arts and the sciences, but provides no answers. This season, performances are based on the theme of anatomy — what we know about it, how we treat it and whether medical practices can gain anything from the arts. Willson notes that she realized medical students “do things to other people’s bodies rather than gathering an awareness of their own.” This fairly specialized theme provides a fantastic opportunity to unify an often complicated subject.
