Insight: Ageing deepens debt-laden Europe’s economic woes
Who would’ve thought that biology and economics would come to be so closely related for a problematic Europe? Indeed, Reuters reports that long after the main causes of Europe’s economic woes are rooted out, the country will be grappling with an even more serious problem – how to pay for growing numbers of old people. Truth is, Germany’s population is stagnant or already shrinking and this will cause savings to reduce and interfere with potential economic growth. Moreover, living standards will be held back due to remaining workers who are getting older and thus are less productive.
