Fixing the Republic

The Economist reports on a comparison of two democrats’ views on how to manage the government best. The two men are Gavin Newsom and Mr Sunstein – and they have both written books about reforming the public sector. Both present themselves as post-partisan and both argue that Barack Obama has done a lot to improve American government. Mr Newsom’s emphasis is on citizens fixing their own problems rather than pestering the government, and Mr Sunstein means the problem is that government is not just old-fashioned but over-complicated. Their views are equally valuable and useful for means of fixing the republic – if at all possible…
