Climate Science: A Sensitive Matter
The past two decades have seen air temperatures at the Earth’s surface remain fairly stagnant, while the level of greenhouse gas emissions has risen drastically. This conflict between the increasing greenhouse-gas emissions and stagnant temperatures is currently one of the most confusing topics in climate science. This, however, does not mean that global warming is any less of a real threat. The lack of correlation between rising greenhouse gas emissions and stationary temperatures currently may be indicative of a temporary lag between an increase in carbon dioxide levels and higher temperatures in 2000-10. Alternatively, and perhaps most likely according to recent research, the climate may be responding to increased levels of carbon dioxide in methods that may not yet be understood.
