Margaret Heffernan: Dare to Disagree

Margaret Heffernan, the former CEO of 5 companies, spends her time investigating the common human thought patterns of conflict avoidance and selective blindness that all too often result in an organization’s downfall. In this highly relevant TED talk, Heffernan highlights the fact that while many people do their best to avoid conflict, respectful and thoughtful disagreement is actually vital to the thinking process. She goes on to propose that the best partners are those that challenge our thinking ā€“ not echo it, and that the best teams and businesses allow people to wholeheartedly disagree. Heffernan argues that when we are brave enough to create conflict, we provide ourselves – and those around us – with the opportunity to do our very best thinking.
