The Future of the Internet: A Virtual Counter-Revolution

As it stands, it appears that not only have we come full circle with regard to the internet but that we are now, in fact, entering somewhat of a counter-revolution. It originated with the purpose of connecting people and breaking down communication barriers. A large portion of the success of the internet today is a direct result of the degree to which this was achieved. However, after 15 years of the internet serving to unify people across the globe, the platform now seems to be entering a new era; one in which it is being segmented by three specific forces. However, Andrew Odlyzko, a professor at the University of Minnesota, argues that there is simply too much to lose if this trend continues.
